🏏 No. 1 OVAL TO BECOME BRIAN WEIGHTMAN OVAL 🏏

Mildura Rural City Council have tonight voted to re-name No. 1 Oval at the Mildura Recreation Reserve after its long time player, coach, mentor and curator, Brian Weightman.

Described by council as one of the "absolute pillars" of the community and a "true gentleman of Mildura" Mr Weightman says he'll be both a mixture of proud and embarrassed when he sees the oval's new name for the first time.

Mr Weightman played with the Imperials Football Netball Club from 1948-1967 and the Mildura East Cricket Club from 1948 to 1982. He coached and mentored junior football and cricket teams almost every weekend until 1997 and managed the Sunraysia U15 football team into his 80s. Mr Weightman was also curator of all three turf wickets at the Mildura Recreation Reserve for more than 20 years.
